Connectors (also known as APIs)

asterisk_orange.png What Are Connectors?

Connectors allow your business systems to talk to each other. This enables you to -

  • Choose the systems that work best for different parts of your business and be confident they work together
  • Save time compensating for your systems having different information e.g. addresses in sales vs address in accounts
  • Save time rekeying from one system to another because it is automated
  • Improve quality (much lower less risk of transfers or sycnhronisation of information being incomplete or mis-typed
  • Keep visibility across the whole spectrum of activity regardless of department or system being used

bell.png Are Connectors Too Technical For Me?

Connectors are really for technical staff to use to deliver on business needs.

So while the implementation is a technical issue, setting the objectives are really business decisions and the benefits are real business benefits as you can see above.

Connectors and their alternatives names and names of their underlying technologies are often used interchangeably such as the following, but don’t let that confuse the basic intent which is to make systems talk and work together better.

  • APIs - Application Programming Interfaces
  • Integration tools or integrators
  • WS - Web Services
  • WS API (from the above)
  • REST - Representational State Transfer
  • XML -Extensible Markup Language

Here at Saasu we spend our lives trying to give you powerful systems that are easy to use but this is one area that you probably need to be familiar with our approach technically or find someone who does, our partners can help.

Our connector framework has been built in the REST style. All calls are conducted through unified HTTP methods: GET, POST, and DELETE. Tou’ll need a basic understanding of XML and Schema.

Develop and test in our sandbox, which has the WSAPI and the Saasu web finance engine. Any changes you make here will not affect your live Files.

Note that Transaction Data cannot be migrated from the Sandbox to Live.

What are Web Services?

A Web Service is software designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network. Where a machine could be a PC, PDA or any other number of computational devices.

What is REST?

Representational State Transfer (REST) in its simplest description is a web-based interface that uses XML and HTTP. It is an architectural style used in software that is designed for “distributed hypermedia systems”. The Internet is a good example of this kind of system.
