Exporting Data

There are a large number of ways of getting information out of our products.

The simplest is running reports, usually in PDF (portable document format) format which means it can be emailed or printed easily from your computer as well as most others.

Sometimes you need structured data because you don’t want to print information you want to work on it as a spreadsheet or in another software program. For this purpose, most of our reports offer spreadsheet (CSV) compatible export formats just look for the icon on the top of the report screen.

If you are loading data into something other than a spreadsheet (such as another financial system e.g. statutory reporting in your country) there are a wide range of products and formats out there (and they change all the time as companies and products come and go) so it is impractical for us to support them all. Further more some of these products compete directly with us so their developers are direct competitors and as a commercial reality they simply won’t co-operate with us to help us to help you despite our best intentions.

  • You should first try to use the spreadsheet approach above using an appropriate report (e.g. General Ledger Detail, Profit and Loss or Balance Sheet).
  • If that doesn’t work ask the vendor of your target software to provide you with -
    • a conversion format to import one of the existing Saasu file formats (fell free to give them a sample of data exported from our system if they need it - take care with your privacy of course) or
    • all the import formats that they already support (in detail wth exact columns, formats and column order) and compare the formats (open them in a spreadsheet or just try to import it in your other software).
  • If that doesn’t work, your next step is to consider having a third party do the conversion for you, many of our service provide partners are familiar with this problem and may be able to provide a one-off conversion for you using spreadsheet (CSV) and an hourly charge for the time they spend converting it.
  • Another option is to get a computer program developed for you to do the job. This is probably a more expensive approach but it will ensure you can re-run the conversion again in the future if you need to. Contact one of our service provider partner or a Premier Partners or developer partners or get a technical firm of your own choosing to register with us as a developer. All these firms can use our web services connector technology (also called an API - application programming interface) to extract (and insert) information carefully from your files.
  • Finally, you might like to have something built that automatically coverts from one format to the other within Saasu.com. This is the best long term solution but in the short term is often the most expensive and slowest. If the format is very widely used (in the hundreds of thousands or preferably millions of users globally) our own team here at Saasu Labs will consider developing something for you and we will normally subsidise the cost because we always retain the intellectual property rights to the software we develop.
  • Please note that we are a product company and don’t do custom development, we develop products so the turnaround time is subject to our other development pipeline globally and global commercial priorities, we are also relatively expensive to engage with in this manner because our programmer’s time is leveraged (ie not paid by the hour but by the hundred or thousands of people who pay to use our software as a service). Read more about custom development at Saasu here, it is not our core business but we do it in special circumstances.
