What Is A Feed? What is RSS?
Feeds are ways of keeping in touch with news of any type from any web site.
When ever we publish new information or add features or any other communication we usually put a posting on the blog to announce it.
RSS stands for really simple syndication, it is a simple but powerful technology that enables you to listen to what is going on anywhere on web sites you are interested in, such as saasu.com of course.
How Does It Work?
Step 1 - Get an RSS reader, we will just call it a reader.
There are dozens of good ones available on the internet already so saasu doesn’t make one. They come in two main types -
- readers you install on your computer such as the one that comes with google’s desktop-
- readers that you access via the web such as google’s web reader
There are lots of others around. or you might want to search for the latest
Step 2 - Select the sites you want news from, and tell your reader about them.
Go to the RSS page on the site or sites you want to get news from - ours is www.saasu.com/rss - then click on the ‘add feed’ link or cut and paste the feed into your reader. Now your reader knows where to get the news from for that particular web site.
Note: Lots of readers now also look up directories of feeds and you don’t need to go to the site at all, just open your reader (it will normally have an add feed button or a search for feeds option) and type the name of the site you want news from directly into the reader.
Step 3 -Check for news.
Just like checking your email, check your RSS reader every now and then to see what news you have received. Some readers actually pop up little windows as the news comes in. Behind the scenes the reader is quietly going out and looking for news on the site or sites you previously told it about in step 2 above.
You should now be able to stay in touch with us (and lots of other news services) all the time just by keeping an eye on your reader each day.
