In Saasu NetAccounts we treat time like any other commodity. So to charge for time you use an Item Sale. This is very useful when you want Saasu to do the calculations for you to add up time and service charges as you create your Sale. Using this method lets you bill more easily than if you had used a Service Sale. Before charging for time you need to setup the units and rates of time you charge for in your business.
Example services you could create as inventory items
- Time Blocks - minutes, hours, days.
- Fixed Rates - for regular services you charge a flat rate for.
- Package Rate - bulking services and sometimes products together as bundles.
Sample electricians inventory item list
| Code | Description | RRP (Recommended Retail Price) |

| COFM | Call out fee - per mile | $2.00 |
| COFG | Call out fee - general | $60.00 |
| HRJ | Hourly rate - Junior | $40.00 |
| HRT | Hourly rate - Trade Qualified | $80.00 |
| FG1KG | Freight - general per 1KG | $1.25 |
| FG1LB | Freight - general per 1LB | $1.25 |
First set up your inventory items
When setting up these services as inventory items you would only tick the box that says I sell this item and choose an appropriate Income category for it. The inventory system isn’t tracking these inventory items as assets (or stock) because the “I Inventory this item” check box has not been selected.
- Click the plus icon next to ‘Items’ in the main menu.
- The Add Inventory Item screen will appear.
- Give your Item of time a Code and a Description.
- Tick I sell this Item only (note that we don’t ‘Inventory’ or ‘Buy’ this item - typically these are for physical goods or services that you have to buy before you can sell them).
- Enter the Income Account for the sales revenue for this item
- Choose an appropriate tax code
- Enter the Sales Price including any tax
- Save and close (or save and add another if you have more charge rates to set up)

Create your Item Sale and use the quantity field to do the Sale line item calculations
When you create the invoice you can use the quantity field to do the calculations for you. As an example, the electrician could bill 12 x FG1LB and Saasu will calculate $15.00 ($1.25 x12). In this way you can build up your Item Invoice with all your services plus any stock your sell.
